Ester Grinspum graduated with a degree in Architecture and Urban Planning from the University of São Paulo. She held her first individual exhibit at the Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo in 1981, and subsequently had shows at the Museum of Contemporary Art of the University of São Paulo and the Galeria Funarte Macunaíma in Rio de Janeiro in 1983. Since then, she has had a number of individual exhibits in Brazil and abroad, among them, at the Galeria Paulo Figueiredo in 1989,1991,1994; at the Galerie Lil’Orsay, Paris, in 1993 and 1995; at the Galeria Marilia Razuk, in 1997 and 2009; at the Paço Imperial in Rio de Janeiro, in 1997; at the Musée de Langres, in 1999; at the Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo, in 2004; and at the Galeria Transversal and the Instituto Tomie Ohtake, in 2011.

She has taken part in countless group exhibits, such as Como vai você, Geração 80?; the Bienal Latino-Americana de Arte Sobre Papel, in Buenos Aires, in 1986; the 1st and 2nd Bienal de Havana, in 1984 and 1986; the 20th Bienal Internacional de São Paulo, in 1989; Tabula Rasa, Bienne, Switzerland, in 1991; UltraModern – The Art of Contemporary Brazil, Washington, in 1993; the Bienal Brasil Século XX, in 1994; Selections Brazil, Drawing Center, New York, in 1995; the 1st Mercosul Visual Arts Biennial, in 1996; Stedelijk Museum, Schiedam, Netherlands, in 1996; Urban Sculpture, Algiers, in 2003; and ARCOMadrid, Solo Project, in 2012.

She was awarded the European Ceramic Work Centre Fellowship at s’Hertogenbosch, Netherlands, in 1995; the Virtuose and Residency Fellowship at the Cité des Arts, Paris, in 1997 and 1998; and the Bolsa Vitae de Artes [Arts Fellowship], in 2002, among others.

She has works in collections such as the Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo, the Museum of Contemporary Art at the University of São Paulo, the Museum of Modern Art of São Paulo, the Brooklyn Museum (New York), the Fonds National d’Art Contemporain (France) and the Patricia Phelps de Cisneros collection.
